FICCI to host its 10th Global Skills Summit 2017
The 10th edition of Global Skill Summit 2017 will be hosted by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) on September 15, 2017 at FICCI, Federation House, New Delhi.
The summit is one of the first skill development global platforms in the country where stakeholders from government, industry and academia converge for sharing of knowledge and best practices. The Global Skill Summit 2017 is expecting over 400 national and international stakeholders including Corporate Houses and Public-Sector Undertakings, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government representatives, State Skill Missions, Sector Skill Councils, NGOs, Think Tank Groups, Multi-Lateral and Bilateral Agencies, Higher Education Institutions, Training Partners (TPs), Industrial Training Institutes/Centres (ITIs/ITCs), International Counterparts, and Skill Consultancy Providers.
The Summit will be inaugurated by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) & Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. One of the key highlights of this year’s summit is a special session with Mr Simon Bartley, President WorldSkills International. WorldSkills is considered as Olympics of Skill Development and is organised every two years. This year India is also leading a delegation to participate in World Skills Competition which is scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi from 14-19 October 2017. Mr Bartley’s views during the session would certainly help the stakeholders in better preparation for the competition.
Other confirmed eminent speakers for the summit are- Dr K. P Krishnan, Secretary, MSDE, Mr. Rajesh Agrawal, Joint Secretary & CVO, MSDE, Mr. Manish Kumar, CEO, National Skill Development Corporation. Mr. Rajeev Dubey, Group President (HR & Corporate Services) & CEO (After Market Sector), Member, Group Executive Board, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited and Mr. MM Singh, Executive Advisor, Maruti Suzuki India Limited are leading industry members confirmed for the summit.
Speaking on this announcement of 10th edition of the Global Skill Summit, Mr. Mohandas Pai, Chairman, FICCI Skills Development Committee said, “Much of the current debate on automation focuses on job losses and displacement which is based on western data. This year’s summit will aptly focus on the theme New Age Skills for Today and Tomorrow and the various deliberations would take stock of our economic and labour policies and highlight key enablers for skill development ecosystem.” The same views were echoed by Mr Bijay Sahoo and Mr Rashmikant Joshi, Co-chairs of FICCI Skills Development Committee.
Ms. Shobha Mishra Ghosh, Assistant Secretary General, FICCI said, “The Global Skill Summit is a premium platform for all the key stakeholders. This year’s theme is of huge relevance to India where best of the minds would deliberate upon strategies to prepare our workplace to meet the challenges of automation as well as develop policy recommendations to focus on labour intensive sectors for job creation.”
Robots sharing the stage with humans would also be another highlight of the summit.
