Mojo Networks finds ”WiFi continues to be the source of serious problems and confusion in enterprise

Mojo Networks, a leader in secure, cloud-managed WiFi, and ZK Research, release the results of a new survey finding that WiFi continues to be the source of serious problems and confusion in enterprise, K-12 and higher education. The most common issues reported were WiFi association and WiFi performance, followed by the vague category of unknown. Often times, WiFi is reported as the issue but after further diagnosis, it is determined that WiFi is not the actual cause of the problem. The survey makes it clear that there are big opportunities to provide better connectivity solutions to end-users and customers.

The survey, by ZK Research, was conducted online of a cross section of 100 network administrators from the K-12 education, higher education and enterprise sectors. It found:

  • WiFi is the reported issue for network connectivity 64 percent of the time but upon further verification, it’s the actual root cause only 40 percent of the time
  • Network issues that affect users are first detected by IT more than 70 percent of the time. However, in over half the cases, users will be impacted before a network administrator has done anything about it
  • Close to 60 percent of network administrators are spending more than a quarter of their time troubleshooting WiFi issues
  • It takes more than 30 minutes to diagnose and to resolve most Wi-Fi related issues

“There’s a disconnect for users and network administrators when it comes to wireless connectivity. Too often, it’s a ‘WiFi issue’ when there are other issues that need to be addressed, leading to wasted time for both IT staff and the end-user,” said Zeus Kerravala, principal analyst at ZK Research. “With wireless networks becoming the norm for the large enterprise, the research shows that collaboration and remote troubleshooting have a long way to go, and that administrators are spending too much of their time dealing with the connections.”

“When WiFi is your exclusive connection to get your job done or take a test in school, you can’t afford the kind of performance this survey illuminates. Sitting around for 30 minutes or more while you wait for the network team to scramble and figure out what went wrong just doesn’t cut it,” noted Rick Wilmer, CEO and president of Mojo Networks. “These findings show how much money is being wasted in the enterprise, and how many class hours our students are losing, due to unreliable networks and the complexity of diagnosis and remediation.”

“There is a need for better networks, better WiFi, and better tools to understand them. Mojo Networks is leading the way to solve these problems with our hardware and cloud managed software,” added Wilmer.
